A Nupe Bride

This portrait is a celebration of the Nupe culture; the Nupe people are an ethnic group based majorly in Niger State, Northern Nigeria. Inspired by a friend’s traditional wedding rites, ‘A Nupe Bride’ captures the solemn moment where the bride is being prayed for by her mother, in anticipation of joining with her husband and the rest of their marital life together.
The vibrant colours showcase the traditional colours of a Nupe bride, the intricate henna designs on her arms and the coral beads adorning her neck and wrists are ceremonial as well as aesthetic, amplifying the celebratory mood.
