‘Balogun Market’ is a unique representation of the Naira currency, with a particular emphasis on the more regularly used denominations, and the steady elimination of the smaller denominations in the Nigerian economy.

The artwork draws inspiration from observing the labourers, visitors and the generally vibrant atmosphere of Balogun Market, located in the heart of Lagos Island. Also known as CMS Market or Eko Market, it stands proudly as possibly the largest wholesale market in Lagos State, characterised by its constant cash flow. Each Naira note in the piece is meticulously hand-drawn, reflecting the market’s energy and the current state of the Naira. The background remains less detailed, allowing for attention to be drawn to and stay on the currency notes, symbolising the relentless activity that defines the essence of Lagos and Balogun Market.

In 2024, ‘Balogun Market’ was nominated as a finalist in the National Economic Summit Art Competition in Abuja, Nigeria.
